Geology.com is published by Hobart King. Dr. King holds degrees in geology from California University of Pennsylvania (B.S. 1975) and West Virginia University (M.S. 1978, Ph.D. 1982). He is a licensed professional geologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and has published Geology.com since 2005. Dr. King served as a geologist at the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey from 1980 until 1994. There he worked as a coal geologist, economic geologist and Head of the Economic Minerals and Geologic Hazard Section. In 1994 he joined the faculty of Mansfield University. He taught Mansfield University's first online course and spent two years as the director of Mansfield University's Center for Effective Teaching. Dr. King retired from Mansfield University in 2008 and he now spends all of his time working on Geology.com.
