It’s wonderful that this film won. Hopefull the Oscar victory will give it wider exposure and help put an end to the cruelty that goes on in Japan.

I’ve just viewed “The Cove”, most distressing. The slaughter of these sentient creatures was disgusting, but what was even more horrific was the story of the IWC.

I thought about commenting on the idea of this happening to humans, what would be the response?! But then I realized, it does every day. We have become so desensitized to the plight of all things (human, animal, plant, eco systems and to our planet) that, excuse the pun, we can’t see the forest for the trees. I wonder out of all the people who see this documentary, how many will take direct action? It’s very easy to become cynical to the idea that attitudes will ever change. All I can say is, if change is to happen it must come from a grass root level (think Global, act Local). Education, Education, Education. This and similar documentaries should be part of our childrens schooling at an early age, along with discussions on how to prevent this and other atrocities from taking place. If all we teach our children is that getting high grades = high wages = big house = lots of consumerism no matter what the cost and that this a good thing, then we are truly lost. Why aren’t we teaching our children the true worth of everything? What ever happened to empathy and ethics? I have children, and I feel like I’m pushing crap up hill with my nose when I’m continually trying to teach them that they don’t need STUFF to make them happy, and to the contrary they’re being bombarded from all directions that this is in fact not the case! In this documentary the statement was made, by the local fisherman, that the dolphin were pests that needed to be eradicated due to them depleting the fish stock. Maybe it is us who need to be WIPED OUT.
